Some of the region’s experienced and emerging artists will have their work on show at the traditional North West Art Circle Community Exhibition and Awards event. The Devonport Regional Gallery is presenting the annual art show, which opens on March 20, at 6 pm, in the main gallery. DRG director Geoff Dobson said the North West Art Circle was a well-known group based on the Coast, with about 60 members. Art Circle members all share a strong passion for making art and the goal to promote and further develop their art practice in the region. The annual exhibition is always a popular and well-supported community event which has been continuing for many years. Gallery visitors can expect a show with a variety of art techniques represented such as printmaking, oil painting, encaustics, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, and drawing. The opening of the show is also an awards night, with this year’s judges to be Gerry Jensen and Joanne Castles from the Launceston Art Society. The winning works will be announced at the exhibition opening. A series of art events run alongside the exhibition include art workshops and artist demonstrations. The Artists in Action event will take place on April 19, from 11 am until 1.30 pm, with NWAC artists demonstrating artistic practices to gallery visitors. The North West Art Circle Community Exhibition is on at the DRG from March 21 until April 19.
