Pro-LGBT priest James Martin tweets about study normalizing animal ‘same-sex behavior’ | News

December 5, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Pro-LGBT Jesuit priest Fr. James Martin yesterday tweeted out a New York Times article asserting that researchers now claim that animals have always practiced “same-sex behavior.”

Tweeted Martin to his 257.3k followers:

According to The New York Times, “A team of researchers say that science has relied on a human heterosexual baseline and made faulty assumptions about sexual activity in the animal kingdom.”

Fr. Martin, a celebrity priest and editor-at-large for Jesuit America Magazine, is regarded as one of the most vocal advocates within the Catholic Church for the normalization of homosexuality.

His tweet provoked a number of critical responses, with people calling out the priest for posting an article about a study that, in the words of the article’s author, seeks to “flip the underlying assumptions of a whole wing of biology.”

The American Life League tweeted: “Show us a monkey that created a cathedral and we’ll start paying attention.”

To which the priest replied: “Instead I can show you some gay architects, painters, sculptors, musicians, writers and poets, many of whom have created works of art that praise and exalt God. Maybe then you’ll start paying attention.”

As to other tweeted responses, Fr. A. Damascus Karakatsanis-Schrenk, who has an STL in patristics, pointed out that “Mother lions also sometimes eat their cubs.”

“Now do animals cannibalising their offspring. I guess that makes killing kids ok too,” echoed Agnes Dei Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi.

“Great they eat their poop too!  They also don’t have conscience and they are not made in the image of God,” tweeted Brian C Hoffman.

Others replies were more personal.

“Dear Father I encourage you to find some time to read: ‘Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology of the Body’ of John Paul 2. It might help you to find out what the marriage is and its purpose. Courage my brother,” tweeted Fr. Rafal Kandora OSPPE.

“Did you miss the class where the Church teaches that not only man, but the entire created order was corrupted by the sin of Adam?  I expect to see disorder in the animal kingdom, as well as among humans,” tweeted Ray Cristo.

“Everyone ask Fr. Martin what point he is trying to make and watch him squirm, like an animal,” tweeted Tyler Rowley.

“You’ve literally become a parody of yourself,” tweeted Catholic wife and mother Stephanie.

And, according to a tweet from LGBT-activist Dan Sloan, if Fr. Martin were implying homosexuality is good because animals do it, that won’t work.

“I appreciate the effort but this argument always heads down the same path: anti-LGBT: It’s so unnatural that animals don’t even do it. LGBT: No they do. Here’s evidence. anti-LGBT: But we’re not animals. The bait and switch is always there. We’ve dealt with it for years.”

To which Brian Crane replied: “The LGBT argument heads down that same path: LGBT: It’s natural, even animals do it. Logic:  Idk, but I do know animals eat their young, so… LGBT: We’re not animals.”

Fr. Martin’s non-stop and “slick” dissent, which he says is “ministering with LGBT Catholics” but which critics say is an indefatigable campaign to change Catholic teaching on homosexuality, has drawn fire from Catholic theologian Janet Smith and academic and writer Anthony Esolen (here and here).

Moreover, Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, called Fr. Martin “one of the most outspoken critics of the Church’s message with regard to sexuality,” and Cardinal Raymond Burke described Martin’s teaching as “not coherent with the Church’s teaching on homosexuality.”

However, Martin claimed in October that his private meeting with Pope Francis was “a public sign” of the pontiff’s “support” for his work.

The Holy Father also appointed Martin in April 2017 as one of the 13 consultors who advise the Vatican’s Dicastery for  Communications, and the Vatican invited him to speak at the 2018 World Meeting of Families in Dublin.

Among other notable tweets,  Martin recently announced a June 2020 “LGBTQ Catholic ministry gathering” at the Jesuit Fordham University with a speakers’ roster so packed with dissidents that Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, called it a “direct challenge” to New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan “to defend the faith.”

He opposed denying Holy Communion to known pro-abortion Catholic politicians, questioned the Bible’s condemnation of homosexuality, which earned him a rebuke from a U.S. bishop and a cardinal, and mused that the recently canonized Cardinal John Henry Newman was “gay.”

Martin also defended the annual retreat for “gay” priests held by New Ways Ministry, a dissident group long condemned by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and then accused LifeSiteNews of “homophobia at its most malign” for publishing an article describing the retreat as “a portal of hell.”
